One of the key restrictions of conventional technologies is that you have to choose between large quantities of same design with low costs or small quantities of individualized design with high costs. Additive Manufacturing (AM) enables us now to overcome this restriction. It is now possible to print different designs in the same process. This leads to the possibility to reduce the production costs of individualized parts close to the level of standardized AM parts. To forward this benefit to the customer it is necessary to develop a flexible design solution that is easy to modify by the customers input. These developments we want to show at our newly developed flowfilters. We developed those to optimize the injection molding process. With the design advantages of AM we could reduce the pressure drop to an unprecedented minimum while increasing the filter performance. Furthermore, optional mixing is possible to improve the material homogeneity of the injected plastic. This part offers even with standard design huge customer benefits with competitive costs. As currently many customer have additionally the need to individualized solutions, which were not available on the market with a reasonable pricing, yet. Based on a highly parametrized design we can now offer our customers a high degree of individualization with a competitive pricing. In this case, we can clearly show the huge potential of AM to improve long-term established and well-optimized parts and create a huge customer benefit.
